Our home the second year.

This week marks the two year point of being in our home :)
This year we decided to share with you where we started... and where we are now.

If you want to look at what we did in the first year... we posted that a year ago here

1. Entry - As much as I love homes that look like they belong in magazines.. it is important that our house fit our family. And because Maddux is such a young age, we thought a giant chalkboard wall would be fun! We decided to use our stair wall for the chalkboard. Eventually I plan I plan on using board and batten like the dining room on this side of the stairway but for now... this wall gets quite a bit of use.  On the opposite side we added a gallery wall with framed photos of a few of our favorite moments and other random mementos that mean something to us

2. Living room -  The living room originally had diagonal carpet that needed some cleaning. We decided to pull up the carpet and lay down laminate floor. We painted the fireplace white in the first year and found a huge entertainment center on Craigslist. The second year we hung a larger TV on the wall that fit the size of the entertainment center. We also changed up the fireplace mantel and added in some photos. and made a few other changes here and there. Eventually I would like to re tile the fireplace and bring in a more colorful rug... and also build a coffee table.

3. Kitchen - This was one of my favorite rooms when we bought the house. However, it wasn't exactly my style. The first year we painted the cabinets, laid down laminate floor, put in stainless steel appliances, added crown molding to the tops of the cabinets, and bought new light fixtures. The second year.. we darkened the island, added accessories, and put in a french door off the kitchen replacing the sliding door. In the future I would like to add a more rustic approach to the island, replace the counter tops and add a stone back splash. Not sure how soon that will be happening, but hopefully we can make it work this year.

4. Dining Room - The dining room we didn't do too much with the first year. We added some gallery photo shelves the first year... and that was about it. This year we removed the carpet and laid down laminate. Added board and batten to the walls, put in a new chandelier, built a new table... and this we we will be sharing more progress on this room.

5. Library - The library started out as a formal living room, or so they called it. We did nothing with this room for the first year. This year we signed up with sawdust girl for some DIY coaching and built a library. It's the coolest room of our house (in my opinion) This next year, we need to find some chairs or a chaise or something to put in there... and I need to buy A LOT more books.

6. Backyard - Another area we didn't touch the first year was our backyard. This year we switched up the stairs on our deck and had a stone patio put in. We are planning on adding in a fire pit area and to be honest I feel like we have only scratched the surface on future outdoor projects, we have a long way to go.

7. Bathroom - We worked on the bathroom quite a bit the first year. We added board and batten and painted. We haven't touched it yet, but its a room I plan on switching up soon. We need to paint the trim white and the doors black. I am thinking of painting the walls back to white and painting the vanity a bold turquoise or something fun. And switching out that outdated light for something more up to date and DIYing a framed out mirror. We will have to see what we end up actually doing.

8. Master Bedroom - The master bedroom gets worked on here and there. Nothing consistent and nothing permanent yet. This past year we have finished the window seat, and started working on a gallery wall.... but we have a long long long way to go. We will see where the next year takes us.

9. Staircase - this year we finished our staircase. Painted the spindles and the railing. We pulled up the carpet and put down wood treads... we love the transformation this brought it. I would love to push back the banisters at the bottom and square off the last two steps someday.

We have come a long way in the past two years.
Those are 9 of our biggest transformations in the past two years. Hopefully we can keep pushing forward and transform a few more areas either farther or get started on a few areas we have been putting off.
