The House Project

We are finally homeowners!!!!

Do you ever go into something... having a very made up mind of what you want... but then coming out with something completely different?!?! That is what happened to me in looking for houses. I went into it thinking I wanted an old house... I wanted character. Lots of character.
And we found a few that I loved.... but they needed too much work... or were out of our price range (sigh)

But then we decided we would just check out a few of the foreclosures and short sales. And that is when it happened. I fell in love with a new house. And to be honest.... I feel that I have so much more to do to a new house than I would have an old house. Because with a new house... you get the exact same house the person 4 houses down from you has.  And some people are ok with that. Some people love that part!

But for me... it is now my mission to add some character into our "cookie cutter" home.

So as time goes on I will be sharing some home projects... and I am sure it will be a lot of trial and error. Maybe more error than we would prefer...

Since we just moved in and we are still unpacking... I have no updates on the house yet. Plus I don't want to rush into changing things... i think taking our time... living here and really deciding what we want.. will waste a lot less money. Otherwise... if I went with what I wanted at this minute... I would end up covering all my furniture in chalkboard paint and turquoise furniture... Ok. Maybe not that crazy.

So I figured I would share with you some inspiration for the new house... and as of today... these are the home ideas I am hoping to steal .... use for inspiration :)

So there are a few rooms I am pretty set on pulling inspiration from. However... fixing up the house will take some money... and money takes some time. We are currently working on Maddux's big boy room. Hopefully I can share that with you this coming week. :) We are waiting on some artwork to show up in the mail!

Xmas To Do List

I have been MIA for the past week. We have been moving... and it. has. been. a. process.

But things are slowly starting to calm down..  Later this week I will be hosting an exciting giveaway and some DIY Xmas projects. Maddux's 2nd birthday is also just around the corner... so we are keeping busy over here.

So I thought I would share our Holiday to do list for Xmas :)

Do you have holiday traditions you do every year? Maddux is 2... we are going to attempt to start a few traditions this year... however... 2 is not a very cooperative age at time ;) so we will see what we can accomplish. I think everything on this list is completely doable... popcorn garland might be a challenge... and I am not sure if he will care about the elf on the shelf concept this year... that might be a bigger hit next year.

Do you have any traditions I can steal?  Please share....

Mr. Claus.

I know we haven't gotten thru Thanksgiving yet... but.

I first saw this on Pinterest...

and Fell in Love.

Clicked on it and read that Katie from Bower Power drew it by hand... and immediately thought... I cannot do that.

But then I kept coming back to it... So this weekend my mom and I decided to give it a go. Our boards are 12X12 and they turned out so well that we decided we needed to make a few that are much much bigger!!!!

If you check out the "how to"...Drawing with the boxes she has shown on the paper you print out... help so much! I am not an artist and if you compare my to hers ... mine is a lot different. but it still turned out AWESOME! This is adorable. And I cannot wait to put it among other Christmas Decor!!!!!

Here is a quick shot I took tonight when I finished going over it! It will look a lot better once it is mixed in with our Christmas stuff!!! Cannot wait!! Anyone else dying to put up their Xmas Decor this year??!?!?!?!

Don't mind the pencil marks... I told you I was soooo excited to put this up!!!! :)

Rustic Wall Art

Again I was inspired by Pinterest...

Source: etsy.com via Fawn on Pinterest

Right now I have no where to put it until we move. but I am excited about finding it a place at our new place. I took three boards and attached them using my KregJig. Then stained them... took a stencil and hand painted the words onto the board. Since I painted it by hand rather than using vinyl. its not perfect. but I still love the way it came out. Thank you Pinterest for once again... inspiration!
The flash messes these up a little bit... but considering I never remember to take photos until after Maddux is in bed... these will have to do :)

I love this sign!

Ruler Growth Chart

I have been wanting to do a Growth Chart for a VERY long time.

I had this one pinned for inspiration.

So this week I finally got to it and made it. This project cost me about 4 bucks. We had everything on hand except for the piece of wood.  So I ran to Home Depot grabbed a 1x6x8,  banged on it with a hammer took a nail and scraped the wood in random spots... and stained it. Then added the ruler marks and stenciled on the numbers using a permanent marker. It was super easy.

I decided we would hang it up about 6 inches off the ground... These photos are of it sitting in our living room. We are getting ready to move into our new place... so for now these pictures will have to do for now. I cannot wait to get up on our wall once we move and document our growing little man.

I love how rustic this board looks. This project was incredibly easy!!!

Here are too many photos of it hanging out in our living room... in our chaos we cal home right now :)

There you go.. an obsessive amount of pictures... of a board.

I linked up over at Young House Love and Bower Power
